Basket economics

Example basket assumptions

Fictional prices and orders, authored 28 October 2026. This report uses a shape-based route estimate; Calculate uses the configured road service.

Product spread

€—
sale price €—/kg minus farm price €—/kg · catalogue average

Reference run cost

€—
1.5 driving hours and 22 km, with the configured van and driver billing buffers

Reference break-even weight

reference run cost ÷ catalogue-average product spread

Scenario estimates

Select a basket, then Calculate for its road-backed proposal and explicit route-check status. Baskets above vehicle capacity require split runs.

Model inputs

  • Goods: selected supplier quantities × their example prices.
  • Van and driver: driving hours plus the configured billing buffer, rounded up to whole hours; van rental has a daily cap.
  • Fuel: road kilometres × the configured per-kilometre rate.
  • Gross profit: sale revenue minus goods, van, fuel and driver. Other business overhead sits outside this figure.

What we charged the chefs €—

Each line is quantity × the example sale price in data/products.json. The reference-price ratio makes the selected assumption visible.

2

What we paid the farms (COGS) €—

Each pickup is quantity × that supplier’s example price. The browser compares goods, van, fuel and driver costs together. The route status records the capacity check and the selected bundle’s VROOM confirmation outcome.

3

What the morning cost us to operate €—

Van and driver costs use buffered drive time, rounded up to whole hours. Van rental has a daily cap; fuel scales with road distance. The inputs are illustrative rates authored in data/depot.json. The route returns to its starting depot.

Van rental configured hourly rental and daily cap —
Diesel road km × configured fuel rate —
Driver configured buffered hourly driver cost —

Example rates: van €12/h capped at €72/day, driver €24/h, fuel €0.18/km. Both time charges use a 35% buffer. Edit data/depot.json for your model.

Gross profit €—

Revenue €— − COGS €— − Van+driver €— = €—

This figure covers the modeled goods and run costs. Add insurance, administration, sales and other business overhead to evaluate net earnings.

The comparison channel uses a reference-price multiplier of 1.30 for delivery and 0.79 for its farm-gate assumption. These authored example multipliers are independent of the actual supplier prices selected by the planner.
