Improvisation Coach

A device that takes people through exercises for improvising, with a built-in synthesizer.

Learning jazz drums, I grew up with improvisation as my north star — my drum teacher took me through exercises that each made me improvise in a different way, getting me into a flow state within set limits. This device emulates that: every time it’s turned on it picks a different exercise at random and prompts the player with guidance.

Powered by a Raspberry Pi 4 running FluidSynth for the instrument sounds.
