How might we lock sound sources in 3D space? How might we give each instrument in a song its own tailored speaker?

I explored making two speakers for individual instruments — claps and guitar in a flamenco duo — each designed around the spatial acoustic character of its instrument, positioned as a performer in the room rather than in the background.

DML speakers are wonderful orbs of sound, but the journey there is long: it took controlled testing of how different materials and typologies behave acoustically.
